The Sweeney
The Sweeney is violent crime in London, also a division of the Metropolitan Police leading to tackling armed robbery and a 1970s television police drama focusing on two associates of the Flying Squad. The programme's name derives from Sweeney Todd, that can be Cockney rhyming slang for"Flying Squad".
Thames Television's film division shot on 16mm film the plan. It aired on ITV between two January 1975 and also 28 December 1978 from the weekday slot using showings at exactly the exact same time prior to 1980s. It starred Dennis Waterman as his partner Detective Sergeant George Carter, and John Thaw as Detective Inspector Jack Regan. Such has been its prevalence in the UK it spawned two theatrically released feature film spinoffs, Sweeney! and Sweeney 2.
The series aired for the Flying Squad that was reallife. In the 1970 s , the Flying Squad was publicly censured if you are included in authorities corruption, bribery and too close links with the criminal fraternity. Unlike the high standards found in the Sweeney, the Flying Squad's actual commander, Detective Chief Superintendent Kenneth Drury was convicted of five counts of corruption and imprisoned for eight years on 7 July 1977. An evaluation was launched to stamp out corruption. A 12 officers were convicted and others resigned.
