The members of "Jane" defied the state laws, the Catholic Church, and the Chicago Mob to support women with undesired pregnancies. In the pre-Roe v. Wade era, when abortion was illegal in most states and distributing abortion information was a felony in Illinois, the Janes conducted abortions to 11,000 women.
