Reclusive Rubin Farr teams up with Ed Tuttle, a noisy but unsuccessful multi-level salesperson, to bury Rubin's dead cat. Their journey takes them to the deserts of Utah, where they meet Ed's ex-wife Rula and an enigmatic Andy Warhol critic.
