Royal Opera House: The Sleeping Beauty
The Sleeping Charm holds an unique place in The Royal Dancing's repertory. It was the ballet with which the Company reopened the Royal Music hall in 1946 after The Second World War, its very first production at its brand-new home in Covent Yard. Margot Fonteyn danced the role of the lovely Princess Aurora in the first performance, with Robert Helpmann as Royal Prince Florimund. Sixty years later, in 2006, the original 1946 staging was revived already Director of The Royal Ballet Monica Mason as well as Christopher Newton, returning Oliver Messel's wonderful designs and also glittering outfits to the stage.
