Captured by smugglers when he had been a hatchling, a macaw called Blu never learned to fly and also lives a happily life in Minnesota with his friend. Blu is considered to be the last of his own kind, however when word stems that a female, Jewel, lives at Rio de Janeiro, Linda and Blu visit meet her. Animal smugglers kidnap Blu and Jewel, however the pair soon escape and begin a perilous adventure straight back again to freedom -- and Linda.
