A band of soldiers from Spokane are ambushed in an Iraqi city, Your day once they receive the word they'll go home in a couple of weeks. Back stateside we follow a number of these - a surgeon that watched a lot, a teacher who's a single mom and that lost a hand at the ambush, a man whose best friend died that day, and a soldier that keeps reliving the moment he killed a civilian female.
