Jamie Graham, a privileged English boyis living in Shanghai if the Japanese induce and invade most foreigners into prison camps. Jamie is recorded by an American sailor called whenever they have been in the camp 22, Basie, who looks outside for him. Even though he is separated from his parents and in a hostile surroundings, Jamie maintains spirits and his dignity, providing a beacon of hope for the others held captive with him.
