Quebec Bill Bohomme is a hardy schemer and dreamer who resorts to whiskey smuggling, a traditional family occupation, to acquire money to save his endangered herd from the approaching winter. Quebec Bill travels with his son Wild Bill. Quebec Bill's chronically depressed ex-con hired man Rat Kinneson. They cross the border into the Canadian bush for four days "full of horror, awe."
