City of the Sun
Chiatura, in western Georgia, used to be the source of up to 50% of the world's manganese, a vital metal throughout the world. It now resembles a post-apocalyptic ghost town. Mzis qalaqi depicts a few of the remaining residents. Zurab, a music teacher, dismantles run-down concrete structures and sells the iron girders to supplement his income. Archil is still employed at the mine, but his true passion is the local amateur theater group. Despite being malnourished, two young female athletes train tenaciously for the upcoming Olympic Games.
